I have been thinking on choreography a lot lately. How does one come up with a new choreography? What is the creative process? I have decided to learn by doing, develop my skills through practice, if you will, grin. I started a couple of weeks ago by chosing to do so and then picking a song. I counted and mapped out the song in a very rough fashion on paper. I gathered some combos from some dance tapes I have for inspiration. I went to dance studio and just ran through it. Tried some stuff, video taped myself, made changes, wrote notes. I worked on the sections that I could visualize what I kinda wanted first. I got about 1/3 the way through that one night. Then I received an opportunity to dance. I have some other choreographies from other dancers that I could have used - but I really wanted to do my own thing - but the timeframe was REALLY tight. Once I decided to go for it and work on it, I was able to finish all but one section in one more night. Now that one section is bugging me, but I know I will get it. And now to polish it to perform it very soon. Wish me luck, Terrah |
