Focus PDF Print E-mail

I recently read an interesting email on one of the lists I frequent.  Although it was a review of a workshop, there was one bit in it that got me thinking......

Where one focuses one's attention when dancing.....

This is one area I am working on as I tend to downcast out of habit when I am dancing.  I have to work on connecting with the audience, looking at the audience, but the email got me thinking that even that isn't enough.

It mentioned that there are four focus areas:

  • your audience
  • yourself
  • the earth
  • the sky

I know I am not as intentional with my focus as I could be.  It isn't just about not downcasting, which is a good place to start mind you.  I need to choose where I am going to place my attention.  And perhaps at first I will have to choreography that in as I do with my hand placement.

With my most recent choreography project - I have started this concept.

In the beginning of it, I am intentionally keeping my eyes closed.

Then as I bring my arm up, I turn my focus to it.  I continue this through the taxim/introduction.

When the main music starts, I shift my focus out to the audience.  That is, unfortunately, where the focus on focus stops.  I guess I have some work to do, grin.
