This week in bellydance class we had a visiting instructor filling in for our regular instructor.  I enjoyed this very much for several reasons.....

The first and foremost was who the instructor was.  She is another local teacher (Perizada) and I have seen her perform multiple times.  She has a very dramatic, mysterious, Spanish fusion style.  She has very strong and graceful arm and hand movements.  She knows how to transmit and direct energy.  I have wondered for a while what a class would be like with her.

Second was her focus.  It was different than our regular class.  Being she was a visiting instructor, you kinda figured it would have to be.  We didn't have as much a workout as more instruction.  She talked about what the music was saying and what that meant to the dancer.  The interaction.

Third was my focus.  Because her style is different than Zarifa's, I found myself focusing on a different aspect of my own dance.  It was interesting to watch myself do that.  It was a different feel.

Forth was what I took away when I left.  I felt very much like a newbie again.  Unsure of myself.  This is actually good because this is when growth happens.  It confirmed my desire to take classes from Perizada.  It confirmed the work I am doing on myself and my dance.  It confirmed that I like a mix which continues includes Zarifa's classes.

Conclusion?  If you get the opportunity to take classes from a different instructor in town, this being different from taking a workshop as it has the potential of being more ongoing, I recommend it.  It will heighten your awareness.

I hope you dance,

Terrah
