Yesterday I had the opportunity to practice with a classmate. It was fairly unstructured and freeflowing. We got a good workout and explored some new concepts....
First, but fate, we both missed each others presentation of our new choreographies to the class. I wasn't able to make the class she presented and she wasn't able to make the one where I made up the assignment. So we were able to present it last night and explore through improv the sections we hadn't finished. Second, we were able to start to map out our next pieces we are exploring. We both picked out musice we wanted to do as a duet. We came out with similar staging though the songs are VERY different. I think it will be fun to work up both pieces. Third, we were able to give each other feedback on technique that might not otherwise get attention in class. It is useful to practice with a classmate and have them watch you dance then you watch them and then give feedback. This improves not only your skill to dance but also to critique in a constructive manner. It is a great alternative to a private lesson that might get expensive to do on a regular basis. |
